 What is Rusd?

Islamic dynasties witnessed the rise of many research and charitable foundations created by Sultans through earmarking a part of the assets of “Beit Al-Mal” (the State Treasury). This was viewed in Islamic in two ways: was such an arrangement a “Waqf” (endowment) or was it not? The matter was resolved by devising the concept of Rusd.

A Rusd in laws that do not contradict Islamic Shari’a (jurisprudence) is based upon the distinction between legal ownership of assets and ownership of usufructs from such assets.
